What Are Hybrid Strains?
As you can probably guess from the name, hybrids are a mix of
indica and
sativa, and are usually considered to offer the best of both worlds, or at least an interesting mix.
Indicas are generally thought of to be more
relaxing and calming, suitable for quiet times and low-impact activities, making them the ideal choice for unwinding on the couch, pre-sleep consumption and pain management.
Sativas, on the other hand, can be considered
energizing and mentally stimulating, good for active occasions, social gatherings and physical activities.
If you are not sure whether to go with an indica or sativa then you may want to consider a hybrid. Hybrid strains will help you find that sweet spot between the
euphoric head high from a sativa and the relaxing body high from an indica.
A Little History...
Hybrids were originally created by cross-breeding an indica plant with a sativa plant. The offspring produced creates something different from either parent, with a mix of inherited traits.
Nowadays many new hybrid strains are crossbred with other hybrids creating even more varieties of different marijuana strains.
The result of this diversity is that there is no one specific appearance to the hybrids, and there exists a wide range of possible effects, aromas, tastes, and cannabinoid and terpene profiles between different hybrid strains.
Hybrids Are Categorized Into Three Groups
Sativa dominant hybrids will be predominately sativa based and give you a more energetic/euphoric high. These strains will be great for creative writing, a hike or a morning coffee meeting with a friend.
Indica dominant hybrids will give you a more relaxed high, while keeping you alert enough to complete daily tasks, indulge in a relaxing bath or complete a low impact workout.
Balanced hybrids typically have a balanced ratio of indica and sativa giving you the best of both worlds. They are great for most activities and settings.
